The New Year begins an exciting new project at Noblemen Homes, one we’re titling, “The Deephaven Project”. This exciting endeavor recently begun with the demolition of a home in Deephaven, MN. The demolition team made quick work of tearing the old structure down, leaving only a slightly sad looking hole as a reminder of what once was.
Over the coming months we’ll be building a new and beautiful home on the lot. The projects progress will be regularly updated on this website.
During this project, we still will be making bids and completing other projects for our loyal customers. If you have renovations or home repairs as part of your new year resolution, feel free to contact us and we’ll get a quote to you.
It’s almost winter in Minnesota which means preparing your home and family for the wicked cold. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
- Last year metropolitan home owners experienced an unusual amount of water damage due to the build up of ice dams on roofs. The end result was moisture build up in attics and wall cavities which, when left alone during the warmer spring and summer months, led to mold growth and health problems. If you are a home owner, keep an eye on your roof to make sure there aren’t large areas of ice building up along the edge of your roof line. Large hanging icicles may be a sign that melting water is unable to flow to the ground. Noblemen Homes can install heating elements on your roof to prevent the build up of ice dams. This small step can prevent moisture damage to your home during later months as well as prevent health problems if moisture infiltration should turn into mold.
- Now is a good time to insulate your attic or unfinished basement to reduce heating costs during the coldest months of the year. Insulation also can reduce cooling costs during the summer months. Noblemen Homes is available for insulating your attic or finishing of your basement to provide a warmer and functional space for you and your family.
- Finally, make sure you don’t have air leaking in along your windows or door jams. During the winter, those small spaces not only will cost you money in heating costs, but also can result in condensation which may damage your wood work, or cause mold growth. There are many resources available to reduce unwanted airflow.
From everyone at Noblemen Homes, we hope that you have a blessed Christmas season, and that your stay safe and warm through the winter!
Your roof is the first line of defense against the elements, but it is often forgotten when we think about energy efficiency in our homes. When it comes to the attic and the roof, a small investment can save you money over the life of your home.
Insulation is one of the most important investments. If not properly insulated attic and crawl space areas will contribute significantly to the overall heat loss in the home. Conversely, in the summer, your attic or crawl space can trap hot air and increase your cooling costs.
There are several different options to reduce your heating and cooling expenses this year:
- Using light colored shingles reflects light and reduces the amount of heat that gets trapped in the attic during the warmer months of the year.
- Increasing the R value of the insulation in your attic will reduce the heat loss from the living space of your home.
- Insulating any ducts or pipes that run through the attic will reduce the heat loss during the winter
If you are looking to add insulation or need to repair or replace your roof, Noblemen Homes would love to come out and give you a free estimate.

The snow is finally melting here in Minnesota! For home owners, now is the time to repair roofs and window wells that might result in leaking into your home. When you notice leaks in your home, it may be a sign of a larger problem. When water leaks into your home, it can sit in wall voids and as the weather warms, that moisture can provide a prime growing environment for mold and fungi. This can cause health problems to you and your family, not to mention that it will cost a lot more money to repair later than it will now.
Now is a great time to repair those leaks and to get your home ready for spring showers and summer heat. Remember that regular home maintainence can save you a lot of money in the long run and helps you enjoy your home for many years to come!
“Beginning April 22, 2010, federal law requires that contractors performing renovation, repair and painting projects that disturb more than six square feet of paint in homes, child care facilities, and schools built before 1978 must be certified and trained to follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination.” (EPA, Lead Information Page)
Noblemen Homes is certified under the EPA’s Renovation, Repair, and Painting Protocol to test and remediate homes and buildings with lead based paint and other materials. If your home was built before 1978, there is a chance that your house may contain lead based paints and other materials. The EPA suggests hiring contractors who are trained and certified in lead removal to ensure the safety of your family.
If you have a home built before 1978 and would like your home tested for lead, please feel free to contact us. We are available for lead testing and for lead treatment projects.

That nasty black stain creeping up your basement walls can do more damage than you think. Black mold at certain levels can cause a variety of health problems from simple allergic reactions to serious long term illness. You cannot remove the mold without removing the source. Mold needs moisture to live–which means you have a water problem. Once we isolate the location of the leak and fix the problem, you can begin mold remediation, which can range from simple cleaning with bleach to removing the wall and treating the two-by-fours with a chemical spray. It’s critical to follow the approved method of treating mold set by the Minnesota Department of Health.

This winter nearly every house on your block has an ice dam. While every ice dam will not cause interior leaks, many do– and they can cause significant damage. Home owners insurance will not cover the removal of the ice dam, but WILL cover any damages caused by leaks. If you find bubbling paint, softened walls, or water stains on your ceilings, your insurance company will cover the cost of repairs. Before you call your agent, call us. We are experienced with working with claims adjusters to help you restore your home.
